Mischief Power Dressing

An examination of the female body’s ability to provoke, offend and disturb the field of vision when deviating from the norm in her way of presenting and exposing her body.

The ambiguity and complex double standards that exist in my own and my future industry’s relationship to the body, arouses both fascination and resistance in me. Design choices I see myself and fellow students make, and that exist in my future industry, lead back to the ideals I saw in my upbringing, and still see in my everyday life.

I therefore want to accentuate the everyday values and references we often overlook in our environment that shape our basic view of the female body and clothing. With looks built on self-formulated fictional comic book villains that represent occasions when the clothes let us down in our pursuit of ideals. Looks that challenges the prevailing ideals of the fashion system; to shape the body according to clothes—and not the other way around.

Through recognisable wardrobe malfunctions that inadvertently expose the body, or as a result of the pursuit of unattainable ideals with too small garments that burst open over the body, I recreate still images in the form of garments. Taken from specific moments, drawn from personal experience, or specific paparazzi photos.
